coco coir vs cow manure?

I am currently using 50/50 cow manure/straw. I do not like how messy and smelly cow manure is. Cant find horse. I dont notice the smell much myself but when my dad came to the door of my basement apartment he said it smelled terrible in here, I made up some excuse about the toilet not flushing. I dont want my landlord to smell this lol.
I know coco coir based substrates work, but do mushrooms on coco coir yield less the those on cow manure? And potency? I assume manure superior but figured Id ask.
Also, are there any other alternatives to cow manure that are just as high yielding and potent without the smell and mess? Does horse manure stink less?

I prefer manure to coir, but here's some information.
Check one.

No manure or any other substrate that is properly aged and prepared will stink. If it smells bad, it wasn't properly aged before use. As long as you use a proper substrate that will provide food for the mycelium, such as coir, horse, cow, llama, or deer manure, verm, straw, etc., growth, size and potency will be good. RR

I bought it store bought, in a bag, and have grown fine with this manure before. I used to use pillowcase method but this time I put the hydrated to field capacity shit/straw into jars which I placed in a large pot and submerged them in water, a meat thermometer stuck into a jar let me know when the temp reached 160F and I held it there for at least an hour and a half.
However the shit was outside and frozen, so it was no longer dry after that, which may be a problem. I don't notice the smell myself though but I would be use to it by now.

No Seriously. It's been mentioned many times before. For those of us that don't have easy access to Hpoo, there's always zoopoo!. You don't even have to go inside the zoo. You just ask the groundskeepers where they keep their.. zebra, llama, elephant, (or whatever animal you want), poo at.

Wow that is great, I may have to try that. I have a few horse farms around my house, would it be advisable to ask if I could scoop some dried poo from their field?
Thanks, Nate

Yes Coir has already been stated to be as good as horse poo.. But Hpoo/Straw is the way to go if you want to handle the mess.. I personally like coir because it is easily obtainable and is fairly clean..

coir is the way to go in my opinion but thats because i dont really trust manure. you never really know what is in it any diseases or whatever coco coir just seems better you know where it came from and you know its clean
plus mycelium dig coir even more than i do because its proven it will ravishly eat it up and form into a hard as rock block ready to fruit without a casing layer
1 5 gallon bucket with lid + 1 coir brick + 1 gallon of boiling hot water = ready to use substrate

Anyone else notice coir feels much lighter and fluffier than manure when both are hydrated to field capacity?

Well it is alittle lighter and fluffier, even more so when you decide to do 50/50 coir/verm it because supper fluffy and almost holds lots of water thanks to the verm.

The reasons I love using coir is: Easily obtainable, small storage space(pri to expanding), easy to work with, has great consistency... really the only downside is how expensive it is.
You can't beat free manure.
But for overall handy-ness, I think coir takes the cake.

I couldn't get ahold of any horse or cow poo besides bags of earthgro so I used that with coir and verm a couple days ago for my cambo grow... hope it works well
-------------------- I agree totally. However, this forum isn't for the experienced growers, because they already know the ropes. It's for the new growers who are just starting out. Sometimes the hardest part about learning something new is un-learning bad info. That's why I tend to correct people for calling a substrate tray a 'casing', etc. RR everything I say is a lie on here.
