Ganoderma 2 far gone?
    #9661459 - 01/22/09 07:57 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

Im really new at this.  Started checking out shrooms when my dog got cancer. Found a bunch of Ganoderma (lucidum I think) on an old Loquat stump.  2-3 years since cut down, at a landscape account I have.  How do I know for sure?  Palms in front have been diagnosed with G. zonatum causing butt rot.  They look almost the same.  Havent really left the G. zonatum long so as not to let spores spread to other palms.I have read that many have same medicinal properties.  Is that true?  Havent read anything about the zonatum though.  Also are they too far gone if the bottom turns dark and fuzzy?  And how do I administer them to my dog?  She will eat almost anything, so should I put the whole shroom in with her food (after shredding it and cooking it)?  I also heard it is better when used with Shiitake.  Is that right?  There was some brownish powdery stuff on some of them when I picked them.  What is that?  Spores?
Thanx

Normally Ganoderma is brewed into a tea. It takes several hours of simmering thin pieces to get the active compounds into the solution. Resulting tea is quite bitter, so I seriously doubt you can feed it to the dog. Also, it has been shown to be effective only on certain types of cancer. What kind is it?

If you haven't seen his site yet, check out John Holliday's alohamedicinals. There's a pretty good section on dog cancer and some extracts prepared for dogs. John's a really good guy, and when my wife had cancer, he sent several cultures to me gratis.

Hey Dennis, or should I call you denger?
thanx for the reply, but still need to know if the ones I picked are too far gone to use and what is the best stage to pick them. I make my dogs food so I could just cook them in with it, couldn't I?  What about the powder on the ones I picked and the ID? Haven't found out what kind of cancer bc it costs too much for the surgery and would probably have to remove the entire upper jaw to remove the tumor just to find out the kind of cancer. It's a real bummer so thought I would try this.
Thanx

Also, No i don't belive that it is to far gone. They can and do mold though. you probably want to cut around that.
Usually green that wipes away from the surface.

It is ok to use the older fruit bodies, and spore deposits are common and harmless. I would recommend brewing the tea and then using that to cook the food with.
