Bulk WBS
    #9658447 - 01/22/09 11:57 AM (15 years, 2 months ago)

I have 6 half-filled pint jars of WBS colonizing right now and I want to find a way to colonize a ton of it at once. Would an oven bag filled with WBS be able to withstand being PCed at 15psi for 60min? Ive never used an oven bag for anything so I dont know much about them. Of course after that Id need to find something to put the WBS in to cultivate but Ill worry about that later.

You will have to get grow bags that have built in filter patch for gas exchange.  Oven bag would probably survive the PC but without a filter your spawn will contam.

Evolution is Lamarckism in disguise.  Adaptation never creates a new species or trait, but rather the new species/trait always existed within the parent DNA until circumstances allowed it to be activated.  For instance, every wolf has the DNA for poodles, but that DNA would never be revealed without man selectively breeding for it.

Yeah, some people grow with jars, some people grow with bags. Im sure you can find grow bags at most myco supply shops online.

i would advise using qt jars for wbs. once you have a qt fully colonized, do Grain to Grain transfers in a still air glove box. G2G is the fastest way to expand your mycelium or stock up on spawn. You can easily turn one jar into eight-ten jars via g2g.

You just jam a 1 inch piece of PVC with polyfill or you use a layer of tyvek and hold it on with rubber bands. Then you cover with foil and PC.

Here is a link to DIY bags, be cautious with oven bags though, you would be much better off with autoclaveable bags.

The questions is not how to do in such large quantity but why??? What happens if you get a contamination...........looks like you gotta throw it all away instead of 1 jar out of 20, 30 jars!

Well i forgot which vendor it was here, but they sell different sized filter patch bags for .25 cents a piece. Several vendors probably do.

AFAIK you can post direct links to sponsors, but you can't post links to non-sponsors that sell the same products as the sponsors...

I've heard of vendors selling filter patch bags for 15/25cents a pop but remind you, you get what you pay for.

This is what I did and it is working great so far. I only had one out of eight survive my first time innoculating with LC made from a wild weilii, and I now have eight successful quart jars colonizing. I am probably going to go for another g2g after fully colonized.

yeah this method of expanding your spawn works great. Jars are re-useable and i just like em. you can do the same thing with bags. Grain transfers in a glovebox.
