So my turtle just popped out some eggs
    #9575959 - 01/09/09 08:36 AM (15 years, 2 months ago)

Crazy shit.  I've had this turtle for like 20+ years now and I wake up this morning and there's like 6 eggs in her tank with her.  Apparently they can just lay eggs at random without the presence of a male.

I read online that they can retain sperm for like 5 years somehow and then lay fertilized eggs.  Unfortunately she hasn't been around another turtle in over a decade.  And he probably wasn't old enough to donate any love juice anyway.  So I'm sure there was less than a 1 in a billion chance of any of these being fertilized but I still felt bad scooping them out of the tank.  They were making the water all funky though from the mucus and shit on them so?  I guess I'll just throw them outside in the snow.  I'd feel bad sticking them in the garbage or the toilet.

My dad said jokingly that I should fry 'em up and eat them on crackers.  I'm very impressionable.  You can't put ideas in my head.  If I thought I could get them sterile for eating I just might lol.  That makes me think.  I forgot to feed the turtle yesterday.  Maybe she fancied an omelete.

Check out today's woot shirt...sold out already, disappointing

Anyways, you can totally eat those eggs if you want.  I've eaten turtle eggs before, and specifically painted turtle eggs.  They're pretty oily, but good

Since they're unfertilized, won't it just be white yolk, not yellow yolk?  Or is yellow yolk what you get when it's not fertilized?

Chicken eggs that you get at the store are unfertilized and they have yellow yolk.

The ones I had I assume were fertilized, I dug them up...

Yep, she's a slider.  She actually is pretty damn big.  The picture might not do her size much justice.  I think you would think she's pretty big if you saw her face to face.

As much as I hate to waste stuff, I don't think I'm gonna eat the eggs lol.  I've heard that you can get salmonella from turtles.  I guess I don't fully understand that whole thing because I know lots of cultures eat turtles and turtle eggs.  What it comes down to is that I don't know what I would have to do to make them food safe.  So I'll just not take my chances.

Maybe they are eggs from god, and the baby turtles are the second comming. If you throw the eggs away, im pretty sure your doing the devils work.

No really, that frog egg thing was hilarious. How long ago was that?

C'mon man, don't say stuff like that.  Now I feel bad.  I really don't think it was an immaculate conception though.  Never saw the frog egg whatever but I did read an article about a shark giving birth to one offspring without any sperm.  That was weird.

Let's say I was gonna eat 'em though.  I'd imagine you'd want to soak them in something antibacterial first.  I mean, they were in the same water that the turtle shits in.

I would soak them in holy water and say a blessing over them. That way when you ingest them you will eat the souls of the poor little guys as well.

Poor little guys. You should be ashamed! Immaculate conception and all you can think about is your stomach. Use salt.

Just wash them fool. Cooking the eggs will kill any live bacteria (yes, bacteria get INSIDE egg shells but that never stopped anyone before). Washing / rinsing the eggs will eliminate the VAST majority of any bacteria.

Try them out - I would!!

I would've done that but the water already needed changing and the mucus from the eggs just made it a lot worse.  I guess I could have left them be until tonight and then carefully changed the water.

But what's done is done.  I already scooped them out.

You guys are funny.  I guess I'll just eat 'em then.  If I get sick it's on the shroomery though lol.
