First Grow, Pink Buffalo [pics]

Well after some trouble with shotgun chamber, I switched to a regular old small bin with plastic wrap over the top. Its just so damn dry here where I am, I dont know if my inside humidity would even register on a cheap hygrometer.
It worked pretty great, was thinking of making polyfill holes, but this worked out. Might have made slightly smaller fruits but for a first timer Ill call it success. After I birth my next two cakes, I will move on to larger and more technical teks with bulk substrates.
I used pink buffalo that took for damn ever to colonize, and 2 weeks to fruit out. For a newbie hearing about mushies growing in a few days, my slow growth was scary.
Heres the pics of my two current cakes:
Do they look ready to pick? 2 have opened up but are not dropping spores :O The rest still have veils, some tiny ones had veils break which was annoying
Bonus: I took a cutting off each cake and dropped it into two uninoculated cakes. Extremely unsterile lol. No contams yet and theyre at least 50% done. But holy crap its the most rhizomorphic growth Ive ever seen. Just strands connecting with strands

That is pretty weird, I've been working with pink buffalo for my last few grows and stuck with it just because its the fastest growing cubensis straight from multispore that I have ever seen, my tubs were fruiting under a week as well..However the first tub I did after I revived the original print I took four years ago took about 14 days to pin and another 10 to mature...dont know what happened there.
And the quick times you hear about after often un-calculated or entirely fictional, the quickest you'll see a jar colonize from multispore is 14-21 days.
The older guys have proven isolates in lc's that can colonize in seven days or they just use more solution. the slow colonization time could also be attributed to moisture issues but yea man, they should be extremely quick.
p.s, nice mushrooms

Ah, thank you. The big ones look ready to harvest. But they are in clusters that I don't think will want to part with each other :O Should I wait until the others start to break open?

If you're planning on printing them it does not really matter, pink buffalo are not the greatest spore depositors in the world.
All prints in that picture had the caps on tinfoil for 24 hours and they're still somewhat thin. The smaller caps on p.b are mostly duds or extremely poor spore depositors so its best to either just harvest those ones or print and check them after 6 to 8 hours to see if they even sporulate, most do not.
up to you.

Yup, these don't look like they're wanting to drop spores, could even be sterile. But if I get prints I'll try to get like 3 so I can send 1 to FSR, 1 to trade, and 1 to keep for giving pink buffalo another shot in the future. The caps are only about an 1 or so. I'll probably let them all grow until the second flush becomes prevalent.

Just an update, first flush from these two cakes was 9 grams dry It seems as though it totally drained the cakes though, not many pins the second time around

Did you re dunk them for 24 hours? If not you should, They're probably dry.

Can't believe this thread is still alive :P I still have the print from my first grow, for nostalgia's sake I might clean it up on agar and do another grow.
