Miracle Grow Cactus Mix...
    #9569196 - 01/08/09 05:14 AM (15 years, 2 months ago)

Obviously not the best choice. :mad2:

Should I be worried? I know I posted about this before, but at the time it was just one mushroom. Now I wake up to four of them lol. They don't really appear to be harming my cacti at all, but if they are I'll have to do SOMETHING.

they wont harm your cacti, they should be ok together :yesnod:

when the seedlings grow up and they are not reliant on the humidity chamber anymore, then the conditions for the mushrooms will not be as favourable and they will likely cease to exist.

cool pic

So...how big should seedlings be before transplanting them?

well thats down to personal preference.
you could transplant them in a couple of months or even wait a couple of years...
some people prefer to separate them at an early stage, it makes no difference IME though...

if they were my cacti i would just leave them in that pot together until they are alot bigger, i usually leave them in the germination pot until they are more than a year old and only transplant them into individual pots when they really NEED it.
small seedlings like to fall over also, so when you have a bunch of them together they all help to support each other.

The peat moss in that mix is partially responsible for the conditions for fungus to grow, no? I read to avoid peat for that reason.

Yeah, I'm not bothered by them at all if they aren't hurting my seedlings

Any ID on the shrooms?

Those are a very common non active specie that grows in your area. I see them allllll the time in outdoor flower pots in my area around late summer.

I don't know their name though, sorry.

the biggest benefit i can think of is that being it colonized the substrate it'll make it resilient against other fungi that could be harmful.

i also can be providing some nutrients for the cacti(decomposing something into simpler, more avaliable nutrients.) but i don't know if it can really be considered mycorrhysal. those are from different genus that won't produce mushrooms.

possibly...
however, i doubt there is any mycorrhizal relationship going on here but one never knows for sure
