What do you cook THE MOST...
    #956745 - 10/13/02 11:11 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

Out of all the foods out their people tend to eat the same thing over and over...

Me I eat Campbells Chunky Sirloin Burger soup the most. I cant get enough of that stuff..
Next would be sandwhiches. I rarely make a sandwhich on sliced bread, this is what french rolls are for... Real mayonase lettuce and tomato. I like to heat the meat in the microwave and melt cheese over it but only if its quality deli meat like Thumans or Boars head, the cheep stuff isnt ment to be heated.

Someone's got the munchies bad!

I eat lots of soup; lentil and pepper, tomato, mushroom, spicy bean, apple and celery... it's all good stuff. And of course, soup is nothing without a good bit of bread or roll - homemade, preferably. I'm a vegetarian, so obviously the sort of stuff I eat is a bit more limited than most.

I like sandwiches. I make a lot of those. I like yogurt too!

Sandwiches are definetly the food I always make. I make huge sandwiches with rolls - lettuce, onion, mayo, ketchup, mustard, turkey/pastromi, swiss, some peppers, ground pepper... mmmm

My favorite kitchen appliance - the toaster oven! Those things have to be the best invention.

Soup - Black bean, spicy mixed bean, chili (sorta soup), chicken w/ egg noodles etc.  Mostly vegitarian foods.  My runner up is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!  =)  I eat grape-nuts and a banana every morning, with an occasional yogurt.

Grilled cheese with a touch of garlic.

Because highly processed meat is fucking disgusting so thats the only easy sandwich for me to make.

How do you make your sushi? I love that stuff but never taught myself how to make it properly.

Superpimp:

First and foremost: get a decent rice cooker, makes all the difference in the world. Secondly, find a good brand of sushi rice, I like Niki supreme. Then find a good sushi rice prep. recipe, you'll have to play with it a bit to get it to come out right, sushi chefs hate giving away their secrets. You want to cook the rice untill it's "just right" sticky, but not TOO sticky. then mix in your rice viniger to taste and allow to cool to room temp.

Then it's just a mater of picking out your fillings and learning the different rolls. There are a TON of good books on rolling techniques. I usually just do a standard western roll, tight and simple, first roll I ever learned how to do.

Things you'll need: Rice cooker, wooden rice bowl (shallow and long) rice paddle, rolling mat (get a good bamboo one, makes a big difference), various ingreedients (most avalible in a well stocked super market)

Fillings: dont be a hero, start with veggi, or COOKED filling rolls untill you learn where the fresh fish are. It takes some fish one day past it's prime to make you good and sick. When you do go for it, start with tuna, it's the easiest to tell by color and smell if it's usable or not. A good rule of thumb: if it smells like fish, it needs to be cooked. Good, fresh fish doesn't smell. any decent meat department will be able to tell you if the fish is shush grade or not. And DONT try the blowfish recipies, the chefs who make that train for up to 12 years.

Other then that: just gete your hands dirty, making a good roll comes from making a bunch of sloppy ones first.

Hope that helps.
