Anyone use X-mas lights?
    #956238 - 10/13/02 01:47 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

a while ago someone used 9v leds with battery taped under the lid of a rubbermaid 20 gallon toat. Was thinking of shelves and treys and a tent and all that, but then thought... What if one was to fill the bottom of 4 toats with
4-6inches of bulk substrate, stack the toats and run a string of christmas lights from one toat to the next. With one or two lights each, it shouldn't raise the heat too much, and a few inches of aluminum foil could be used as a backing reflector to maximize light and prevent the toat above from growing downward. This would be shelves, treys and terrarium all built into one (or 4 rather) and woldn't be too noticable except as storage containers. Anyhoo, that's the idea that's been floating around the brain for a day or so now.

yep, it works fine. AFOAF uses metal racks and weaves them through the wires above the "moonroofed" rubbermade containers.

AFOAF uses the little while ones. thay are about six inches over the boxes. heat has never been a problem.
