Looking for Volvariella volvacia culture

As usual, have a lot of other cultures to offer for trade. PM me for the list if you have Volvariella.
Thanks!

You might have trouble getting it this time of year. As I understand it (not from experience,) V. volvacia faces quick and serious dieback upon exposure to temperatures below 45 F.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but someone should have a culture going somewhere.
Thanks!

I don't have V. volvacea- but I do have at least one print of V. bombycina (close relative, edible).  PM me if interested.

Is that V. bombycina print fairly fresh?  I actually shelled out the money for a print from FMRC and I've had a hell of a time getting the spores to germinate.  I think they're way too old.

How will you ship the culture, without it freezing or going below 12 degrees C ?

Would wrapping it work ?

Insulated boxes are easily available: aquarium and other hobbyists use them all the time, they are available from uline.com if they cannot be found locally. A hand warmer packet from Home Depot with two or three tiny holes punctured in it (needle size) instead of opening it, keep the inside of the box well above freezing without overheating the content and lasts a week this way.

I've shipped orchids in winter using chemical warmers.  It's fine as long as you spring for air shipping.

Sadly, the print in from summer '07.  However, I've found the species a couple of times in my area and will hopefully find it again.  The only place I've found it more than once has been destroyed.  I don't think that temperatures are a problem for the print.  A culture, yes, but not the print.  Does anybody know for sure about temperature sensitivity of a V.bombycina print?  (or volvacea)

denger,
prints aren't typically too temp sensitive, but as you indicated the growing mycelia (either on agar or in grain) is sensitive to low temps and will die around 45 degree F and lower. it cannot be stored in the fridge like other species we've read of, but stephen peale of fmrc has shared other creative ways of storing the mycelia which are logical in relation to wild speices subject to the vagaries of climate. one of those ways involves a slow desication of an agar culture.
i have both agar and grain inoculated volvariella volvacea growing at this time. i have already pm'd you, also.

I have dried specimens of V. volvacia only (revive dried tissue?).  I think I can get wild prints and culture of V. speciosa (native to Australia I think and it is supposed to be edible.  I ate one before.  Kinda fibrous.) this coming autumn (April-June).

I see them around sometimes.  They are mainly solitary, appearing late autumn to winter.

Cheers,
cutemushie
