Breaking up BRF - crumble by hand or cheese grater
    #9550191 - 01/05/09 09:54 AM (15 years, 2 months ago)

Ok so here is my question. I have a number of BRF cakes that I want to spawn to hpoo. I have read that some just break them up by hand often in a ziplock bag but have also see where some people use a cheese grater. I am looking for people may have used both methods and what their prefence is.

When I spawned cakes to coir I just stuck the cake and coir in a blender, ran it briefly and poured to trays.

Break it up however you want to.  Smaller pieces give more inoculation points, but there's a point of diminishing returns if you break it up too small, as it's harder for the mycelium to 'jump off' from very tiny pieces.
