Crumbled cakes into coir. Does this look right? (Pics)

Hey guys,
I am making some new cakes, but in the meantime I took my cakes that had about 3 flushes and crumbled them into coir. The mycelium still looked white and healthy. It is has been about 4 days. Some white stuff is started to spread, but I don't know if it is what it is supposed to be. Also, if it is good, do people mist at this point or just let it sit? Thanks.

Looks ok what was your ratio.. Also I would have tried to cover all the BRF/verm from the cake.. You don't want it exposed, you want it covered up so it is protected from contamination..

I basically took 2 pints of cakes, crumbled them and hand mixed with maybe a 1/3 brick o f coir. I made it to about 3 or 4 inches of coir in my container. So, I should have mixed the cake and coir, and then put a layer of coir on top to cover the mixture? Do you mist and fan this?

It does at least look like healthy mycelium but I agree with Damion5050 that you should have covered it

Is it in a tray ??
If it is in a tray cover it with some sort of lid, like cover it with cling wrap and poke a couple air holes in it.. Cover the holes with micropore tape.. You need to let the coir fully colonize.. Should take 7-14 days.. Then after that you need to put it into some sort of fruiting chamber.. The mist and fan 4-6 times a day..

Foil works to, I just buy sterlite 6 quart shoe boxes and use the lids that come with those.. So I don't have to fuck with foil or cling wrap..

After its colonized he could case it again though right?

At first I thought he was adding more substrate then wanting to case...I think he is getting coir mixed up with a casing but I am really not sure...

he still needs to mist that with or without a casing after it is 100% colonized..

Hey guys, thanks for all the info. I am sure I am getting mixed up, as I am still relatively new although I did get spores, made and colonized cakes, had a successful batch, and now on to trying new techniques.
I have it in a 16 qt. clear container with foil around the coir. Basically, I took the coir added almost boiling water, mixed it in a pot, and then let it cool to about 80F. I poured that into my container with foil, then took my 2.5 cakes, crumbled them, and hand mixed lightly leaving some cakes pieces at the top.
I then set it at room temp, covered with saran wrap. I mist and fan about twice a day the coir/cake mixture. I am going on day 4 as of now. Since, the cakes had already flushed I wasn't sure if this would work.
Based on what I did, what is optimal? Does it look like it is working? I am still not sure exactly what casing means, however, I've read some people saying it is not necessary. So, based on my protocol, am I alright, or where are the glaring misinterpretations of what to do? Thanks.

mykalt do not mist and fan them.. You don't do that yet if you do you will contaminate your tray.. You cover it and let it sit for 7-14 days till it is all white, also called 100% colonized..

Thanks man. I will cut it out right now! By the way, last time I did it with the cakes, I had them in jars of course just sitting in a foil roast pan. Then, when I went to fruit it, I take perlite, wet it thoroughly, and then put the cakes upside down on foil that sat on the perlite. What do you do when you have something this large? Just get a larger tub and do the same thing? Most people leave them in the container for fruiting?

Here check this link out http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Terrarium-Tek and http://www.iplayerhd.com/player/4668b8fe-7c51-44cd-ac3d-1cb71528184f.aspx
That would be the best bang for your buck cost about 20-30 bucks to set up or less.. Just make sure you get a big enough tub

and yes once the tray is fully colonized you can just set it inside your fruiting chamber tray and all..

no ones picked up on the fact that the spawn used was spent cakes. not really ecomended. the cakes will be covered in contaminants. the cakes arnt spent just because the nuitients are gone bt because the mycelium has aged. while this can work it has much higher chances of contaminating plus dont expect it to produce much or it may even prodce mutatefd fruits.
keep it covered during colinisation. foil or saran wrap with a few holes covered ith micropore tape for gas exchang. lleave it for a week and check its progresss.

is there an issue with mycelium going from its colonizing state to its fruiting state?

I had seen that spent cakes are more unpredictable, but since I had them I decided to try it. I've got some new cakes on the way. I figured that there seemed some good mycelium if I placed them in a new substrate they might be able to continue to replicate. However, it seems that the prolonged time needed to re-colonize a substrate lends toward contamination.
