Does anyone know if animals "trip" themselves? This would be altering their mind with drugs I suppose and without any human interaction?

Yea man. There are lots of examples of this, from monkeys smoking DMT to lemurs eating psychoactive caterpillars to reindeer eating amanita muscaria mushrooms and much much more. Not to mention more common, house hold occurrences like cats with cat nip. If the urge for intoxication isnt universal, it is at least very prevalent in nature.

I can't remember where I read it. But I read certain sheep will actively seek out mushrooms that contain psylocybin. I'll go look for a source now.

Yeah there was a thread about this fairly recently. A study where they made a DMT containing cigarette available to confined Rhesus (?) monkeys on an hourly basis, and observed which of the monkeys actively sought out the high. Just do a search for monkeys and dmt or something like that and it should be fairly close to the top. Anyone else remember that thread?

Catnip is in the family of cannabis right?
If so why does it seem like they're tweaking when they sniff it?

I don't think it is. But I know for a fact it sure trips them out!
Just about every instance of Animal seeking out drugs listed here was in the book.
There is also many others, birds eating berries and getting drunk, mongooses eating datura, deer eating mushrooms, sheep eating mushrooms, goats eating moss, etc.
One thing I find particularly interesting is that these animals will do these things even if it means death.
And primates, surprisingly tend to avoid the hallucinogens (in the wild).
