ID Request - Identified (Leratiomyces ceres)
    #9489526 - 12/24/08 02:10 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

We had a rainy week last week as well as a couple of nice warm days in a row then some more rain. Seemed like perfect mushroom weather and.. well here they are.

Habitat:
Found in a very-well watered grass patch after several days of rain followed by a couple warm days, followed by more rain.

Cap:

4cm across, prominently convex, circular, orange with a darker center

Gills:

Purple/grey light coulored gills.

Stem:

5mm wide and 5cm long, hollow, white looking with vertical striping and some slightly yellow parts.

Spore Print:

Slight purple tint, not much else to describe.

Additional:
No bruising noticed, slightly metallic smell to it.

My brother actually found the patch and and brought two home for the holidays  so maybe he thought it was.

When he showed me I was pretty sure it was not. I just like mushrooms and the knowledgeable members here are much better at IDing than I am, so here I am. Also every one I identify or is identified for me is another I can add to my knowledge... which is why I love these forums!

I know someone who has eaten them many times.  He says they get you high and also cause explosive diarrhea.  At the time he said that he thought a good purge was good for you now and then, but now he knows better and only eats Psilocybes.  He also says that Stropharia riparia and Psathyrella gracilis gives you a buzz, so maybe he just gets a buzz from eating raw mushrooms.
