Identification request.

hello all. i've been watching these little guys for a while now. its about time i make a post.
Habitat: growing with outdoor potted plants. the soil mixture most likely contains a cow manure compost.
Gills: light brown/tan turning dark brown/black with age. not brittle but smashing easily.
Stem: 1-3cm in length. 2-3mm in width, white/grey/light blue at the base fading to brown. sometimes scaly. somewhat stringy. sometimes slightly twisting.
Cap: 1-3cm in width. starting a wet brown color. fading to light brown/cream in the center with age, sometimes turning dark brown.
Spore print color: spore print is jet black
Bruising: bruising is very difficult to induce with this mushroom. there isnt much meat to bruise. i managed to get a quick reaction out of the largest cap. the last image shows this.
Other information: the scent is very familiar, tart/citrusy. smelling much like fresh cubensis. these mushrooms last for 2-4 days after reaching maturity.
here are the pictures. i tried to be thorough.
i have included a duplicate picture showing where the bruising is because it is somewhat difficult to see. the minor bruising on the gills appears blue but there is simply not enough flesh to get a good color.
hooray.:) thanks!

Cool mushrooms.
I guess they are a Panaeolus, probably Panaeolus cinctulus or something similar.

Those lighter gilled ones look like they could be something else, like Tubaria or something.

the lighter gilled ones were picked from the same cluster a few days back. they were very young. the three i printed have an extra 2-3 days of life. i have tried printing the young ones but they fail to drop spores, immature i guess.
they do all print black. here are some pictures i took a few weeks ago of the same species growing in a different pot. all of these pots were prepared at the same time with the same soil mix.
Alan it does look like it may be some type of panaeolus.

Still kind of looks like a mixed collection to me, but if you say so, I guess they are all the same. I can see some similarities. Spore print color would be one giveaway.

johnnyblaze2316 they do all appear to be jet black.
As soon as new fruits develop i'll document their progress more steadily.

i have a 100x hand microscope which is barely enough to see individual spores. i also have a cheap 100-900x microscope but the lenses are so dirty you cant really tell whats going on. i might take it apart and see if i can clean it up a bit later today.

I think the clusters of smaller mushrooms are not subbs. but the large single one and the ones that grew in the pair look like subbs to me. nice find, well guess they found you in this case.

hello cactu. there was very likely some store bought cow manure compost in the soil mix. when the stems are crushed they just turn darker, it isnt clear what color the bruising is. The cap tissue has a lighter color so the bruising can be seen more clearly.
i put some of the spores under my cheap microscope and managed to get these fuzzy images. these images are taken at 600x on the microscope and at 3x zoom on my digicam.
^This shows a cluster of the spores. I have no way to determine size so i have superimposed a spore of psilocybe cubensis taken at the same zoom level.
^same deal here.
^this shows a side by side
^this image shows the psilocybe cubensis spores alone.
That is all the new information i can provide for now. hopefully a new flush will emerge soon.

Please cultivate a tray of these, they would look great!
The cube spores you posted sure do look big and cubelike, and the others are darker, smaller, and more lemon shaped, exactly what I would expect to see for P. cinctulus.

i've had the fresh spores on agar for 3 days. germination was visible this morning. i should be able to isolate a substrain in the next few days.
