oyster mushrooms
    #9458953 - 12/18/08 09:57 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

Does anyone know anything about inks and oyster mushrooms.  I have a lot of shredded mail, cardboard and readers and stuff of that sort I was going to tear it all up and pasteurize it then inoculate it with some oyster spawn i have and see what happens.  I dont know if there is any problem with the inks and glues that are on the paper because I want to eat the if they fruit also it that a good way to get rid of those inks then throw it into the garden or will it affect the soil?????
I figured it would be a good way to cut down on my paper waste and use it to make yummy food.
Thanks

most paper these days uses soy based inks.  cardboard and newspaper, phone books, etc will serve you fine.  Id steer clear of glossy junk mail and magazines, though.

Good for your soil, too.

I thought that mushrooms metabolize poisons. and even if there where any toxins (toxic ink) in the substrate, the fruitbodys wouldn't contain any?

Yea that's what I have been hearing but to what extent.  I am still fairly new to all this I have heard that some mushrooms can even clean up toxic waste.

paul stamets will say anything to sell his product. The guy is a nut.
He takes credit for the cyanofriscosas thing that we are finding in the bay area
