I'm not really sure what species this is.

When whole the mushrooms had a very fruity Gym smell to them. However, when the cap and gills are crushed between the fingers they smell exactly like raw potatoes.

Gym. liquiritae is reported to smell like raw potatoes.
But I don't think they are liquiritae.

Can G. sapineus smell like potatoes as well?

Could be wrong but the stipes look kind of thick for Gymnopilus sapineus.

Nice finds whatever kind they are.Any under shots of them?

Looks like a good match for G. sapineus.

Substrate matches, its growing on doug fir and that species likes conifer wood.

You can eat it if you want but I don't think that species is active. If you eat it keep an eye out for any relaxing kava-like effects.

Not going to eat these.
I just haven't had the desire to eat a Gym yet.
Now, if I find some more luteofolius I may try them.

my last experience with luteofolius was not that great. It tasted awful, and it didn't do much for the amount i ingested. I still have a bunch of them lying around, I'm not too eager on eating half an ounce of bitter mushrooms in order to trip.
