Egg shell substitute
    #939647 - 10/07/02 11:18 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

The only crushed oyster shell that i can find is in pet stores. It contains granite grit
copper oxide, orange oil, zinc oxide, ferrous carbonate...ect. All of which I have
no idea of the effects on my little shroomies growth! So I thought I would use egg
shell instead, which is often used in organic gardening as a buffer. Any ways, I
have collected the egg shell of my daily breakfast for about a month and have a
pint jar full. Took each egg shell and rinsed out the slimey skim inside, and set out
to dry. I broke the egg shell into tack head size. Any one see why i could not use
this in my casing in substitute of oyster shell?

Egg shell works well, but clean it. Especially the bits of membrane.

The egg shell sounds fine, go for it.
But I definitely wouldn't use crushed oyster shell with all those chemicals in it.
