Good or bad idea? (Perlite in a monotub)

So my recent monotub had some trouble with moisture. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to hang some perlite in my monotub. It would be nearly 1 to 2 inches worth that I'd measure in an identical tub. I would hang it in 2 to 4 (which ever combo is less bulky) completely synthetic paint-strainer bags (so it wouldn't develop molds) and just hange it on each side. These strainers are like a nylon plastic that's not stretchy. It's more so a plastic bag. Now is this a good or bad idea. I figure it's better than misting since it cause no bruises and it will only give off moisture when the tub needs it.
Is this a terrible idea? I'd also clean it out every couple of days.
I'd also only hang these bags when the tub was fully colonized and then remove them when the fruits become large. Also would this just be a shit ton of pearlite hanging (i.e would the bags be too large to be practical)?

Hell....now that is a pretty interesting idea.
I've never heard of anyone hanging damp perlite in their tubs but I do not see why it would not work, I know humidity rises but it would defiantly have a impact on the R.H in a positive way.
Try it out and let us know is all I can say.

that could actually work really well since there is no standing water at the bottom of the perlite to inhibit evaporation...cool idea...
dont suppose i could see some pics?

I'm going to put it together tomorrow...Friday nights I get my drink on. My only concern is that perlite gives off it's moisture through having a large surface area. I'm not sure if it would give moister off as the tub dries if it's balled up. What could happen is that perlite would stay perpetually moist as ball and that would cause not a lot of moister to be released. I'm essentially not sure as to how perlite releases moisture does it release it with needs of the surrounding RH or is it always evaporating (the later situation would be better for this setup). I'm going to see if there is an alternative material to use if the perlite doesn't work. Basically if perlite doesn't work I want to find a material that works like the opposite of desiccant or silica. By good friend is a chemist at a crazy chemical plant but he's on vacation. I'm sure he'd have some crazy chemical to solve this problem.

It would be like Aeroponics. With a sensitive hygrometer,You would spray the bottom of the perlite/netting with a mist of O2'inated"water.This could work.

Clever idea but monotubs are all about neglect and simplicity IMO. Just make sure to have the moisture content right when you make it up and keep it closed until you either case/harvest it. Don't have a fan blowing directly on it and it shouldn't dry up that way.
Edit: check out my recent monotub grow where I never misted or fanned or even opened up once besides harvest.

i thought the reason that perlite is good for humidity is that it is very pourous...as in surface area is not only on the outside but also throughout the inside as well, it doesnt matter that much whether its balled up or not. The water that evaporates in the perlite from the center of the ball would just slowly diffuse through the airspace b/w the pieces of perlite until it reached the outside.
If ur still not convinced then just make smaller bags of perlite to reduce the distance from center to surface of the ball and make more of them...

The smaller bags would be so it's not so cumbersome and large in the monotub. Basically so it doesn't take up oneside. You could just spilt the amount of perlite between multiple bags so you don't have one giant ass bag hanging in the corner. 2 to 1 inches of pearlite in a bag would take up a lot of space for an 18 gallon monotub. It's probably more practical in terms of spacing just to break everything up.

I agree with you 100% but I got some nasty air coming out of heating vents. My rooms RH was 50-60 range (I had a humidifier on 24/7 too) and that vent's hot air sucked the life out of my tub...and the vent was closed... My second tub I never plan on opening it till harvest. My first tub got fucked up from my room's heater. Now I leave my tub in my closet which has settled the problem a bit. Still I'm going to try this set up. All you have to do is hang a few balls of perlite and close the lid. And then you're done. I really can't see it hurting anything so it's worth the try. This might be a good idea for those that don't case.

Also try smaller holes in the monotub as well.

I have 2 inch wholes. That seems to be standard practice around hear. But yeah I agree with you if I ever grow again now that I know all the problems I've had I'd definitely use smaller wholes.
