I think these prices are low so that Americans can give it right back to the same rich people. This time not at the pump, but at the department stores for Christmas. It appears as though you're saving money, and not paying much for gasoline. Yet the money we managed to save over the past few months will be spent regardless.
Do you guys think the same people at the top are getting it right back from us anyways?
I swear these powerful people gather in secret to collude with each other. Devious sons of bitches they are.

I don't see how it could hurt to take the money out of foreign oil and put it in the pockets of struggling companies durring these hard economic times.
I think things would be alot worse if fuel was at $4 a gallon, no one is requiring you to spend your saved money.

Yeah but they know we will spend it.
What about putting the money in the pockets of Americans? It would be a whole lot better than making sure a CEO can continue to sail his yacht!

or perhaps prices are low because the summer months are over and people all over the world are tightening their budgets to astronomical levels, thus causing demand for oil to TANK, and consequently driving down the price to the levels we see today.
but that's just a theory (albeit one based in rational thought)

Dude, they ARE putting it in the pockets of Americans. Don't spend your fucking money if you don't fucking want to. If you spend all your saving at christmas, there is NO WAY you can blame the companies.

I think it's Bush thats lowering them just to get any kind of sympathy before he leaves. It would be pretty funny though, if after the holidays the prices go up and they blame Obama

The Bush's made most of their money in oil man...
Anyways. My point isn't about savings. It's more about corporate collusion.
They lower the price on something knowing full-well that they'll get it right back somewhere else.

However, you and I both know this is true in a sense. People do not meet in conference rooms anywhere and discuss these types of things. That doesn't mean that there isn't a certain code for big business to follow. Our economy is a pretty complicated ecosystem, and the big influential powers know exactly what they need to do, and who their allies are.
I don't agree with the OP, but if business did not follow these types of practices, they would have probably tanked a long time ago.

Gas prices are low because we are NOT the only country having problems.
Other places have had to budget their expenses, They've stopped construction, etc and so forth. So countries all over the world have been finding ways to use less and less oil. Basic supply and demand, if everyone stops demanding oil, there is more to supply. Which equals a decrease in price.
Sure part of it is probably some part of a remote corrupt theory.
But most of it is because everyone is broke these days.

Gas prices hit 5 year lows because of a few things
1. Americans finally got sticker shock at gas, both at the pump, and the affect of increased fuel costs for goods.
2. A different and cheaper process is used to refine oil into gas during the winter months.
3. The entire Western world is a recession to some degree or another. People aren't spending like they used to, including doing things like going on road trips, seeing family over the holidays, etc.
I'll bet anyone on this forum basic unleaded is at least $2.50 again by 4th of July.
