well, while on it, perhaps you should subject yourself to the sort of stimuli that trigger the attacks. this way you will condition yourself to feel normal about them and not avoid them all the time.
The avoidance makes certain events not "part of your life" and therefore when they are unavoidable, you panic, your "life" is at stake.
you need to reconfigure what your "life" is and incorporate these elements you've always avoided while on the drug, so you can experience them without the panic and see that they can be handled.
for many people, its conflicts, or the judgment of others.
maybe you just need to get out in the open and let people judge you and get used to not being unreasonably concerned about it.
what you think?

Were they prescribed??? Do not just come off of them all at once you will/can have a seizure.
If they were prescribed or if you have a doctor you can trust ask them about Temazepam. It is a much milder benzo, and is EASY to come of compared to Xanax or some others.
It lasts longer too. You can take it twice a day, then once a day for a week, and then once every other day, then a smaller dose every other day...Then when you feel comfortable quit completely.

yeah they are perscribed. i'm planning on tapering for 2 full months so i shouldn't get any intense physical withdrawls. i'm not going to get tolerant to benzos again just because i dont wanna be their bitch. i'll keep them around for occasional use though

If you want to quit them totally, that may be a bad idea.

I found that getting away from benzos took a hell of a lot of will power to stop.
When you start cutting back, write down when you take some, how much you took, then put that up on a calendar to help track your progress.
For myself that helped keep me on track. But you will find your way.

IMO they are the most mentally addictive things in the world...The physical withdrawals aren't a joke either.

That really is a bad idea. if you keep them around you will do them, eventually. And then you will be right back where you started from and all the progress that you have made will be lost.
Someone near and dear to me is going through the same thing. Thankfully she has a doctor that is working with her to help her taper off at a very slow pace.
If you are done with them, then you are done with them. If you keep some around you will lose the battle.
