Ok, so I found a shroom on my walk today, that was already dead, but my question is, are there any other Amanita strains, with a blood red top.. Now this one did not have spots.

Im just curious, cause the pics of the a.pantherina, are all light orange to a deeper orange with spots, and the death caps don't look to be red at all. this cap is blood red.

yes there are, im not sure exactly on their name but most of them are probably toxic, also many russulas are red. They best way to id muscaria is by the stem base with concentirc rings.

Have you ever tried wiping the white spots of an Amanita Muscaria? It's really easy. Rain could be the cause in the case it happens to be Amanita Muscaria. I don't know about any other red topped mushrooms but there are some typical things for Amanita Muscaria you might want to check: -Spores: white -It has that skirt under the cap, also know as annulus
This might help a little, but still you'll have to wait for response from a more experienced person.

On second thought, I think it is very possible that it is a russulas. It doesn't match up with any other Amanitas.. But correct me if I am wrong, You can usually find Amanita muscarias next to pine trees, at the beginning of winter... Hoping to find some in GA

russulas and amanitas are both fond of pine trees, also in georgia muscaria will mostly be yellow or orange, it also may be too cold now for muscaria but thats too far south for my liking so im not too sure, i know its too cold up here in the northeast.

Amanita jacksonii aka: American Caesar's Mushroom, Eastern Caesar's Mushroom. It's the only red Amanita in the USA that I'm aware of that doesn't have any spots. The description in my guide book calls it "brilliant red to orange-red". As to one WITH spots, there is Amanita parcivolvata aka: False Flying Agaric, False Caesar's Mushroom. The first one is "Edible but not popular. The taste is somewhat fishy."(quoted from the guide) and the second one is poisonous.

several species of amanita have red caps. One (A. jacksonii) is considered quite edible, others' edibility is unkown, and some are mildly toxic.

I took the pics with the wrong setting, and they are too big to download.. but they look like a dried out version of this.
