Nice, one of my favorite mushrooms to hunt just because of the time of year they fruit, i love winter hunting.  I actually just tried these for the first time a couple weeks ago, and i must say they are pretty fantastic, much better than i was expecting.  They are just a royal pain in the ass to clean if they are dirty, although the pellicle is real easy to peal if you want to take the time and do that.  I also took one of the caps and put it on top of a pile of sawdust and wood chips, and so far so good, so if you wanted, they seem effortless to cultivate.

Excellent!

I have a few patches I watch and they seem to be doing fine.  If I get the chance I'll go out and snap a few pics.

How do you prepare them for eating?

i like to eat many of the mushrooms dishes I make with corn, butter, little salt/pepper and thats it

im not a great cook though, i like plain dishes so that i can taste the mushrooms better, people that have tasted my mushroom recipes say they have to much mushroom flavor:crazy2:

oh well more for me:shrug:

Cool!

In Northern CA we have a native sub-species of F. velutipes that only grows on Bush Lupen (Lupinus arboreus) on the N. CA coast.

Flammulina velutipes var. lupinicola

Sounds nummy.  For me it depends on which species they are.  I generally bury Chants in apricot jam with butter.  Blewits I treat like you said.  I've never eaten a wild Enoki but I might try that this year.
