yeah but he didnt know that was there until he killed them all. If he wanted to see what was under there he woulda had to take the cover off to begin with... imagine what would happen if he did that lol... hed probably be attacked by 1000000 bees.

I agree, it's just that I've been seriously considering bee-keeping as a hobby when I buy a home.

I've been trying to plan an off the grid lifestyle. Having a decent acreage with a garden or grove of trees would require bees to pollinate. I'd then use the honey for mead that I'd make myself.
Plus there is money to be made in taking beehives to large crops for the pollination season. Down in California and up in Maine some farmers have to outsource bees for this.

Nothing like fresh honey, eh? Be real careful if you ever do that in a suburban type property. Most places won't let you keep bees, as they're considered a wild animal, some places even have bee-specific legislation. A shame, because European honeybees are pretty much harmless unless you screw with their nest.
Too bad this guy bug bombed the nest. Now all those honeycombs will go to waste. Looks like he had quite a bit, too. Should've gotten a bee suit and ripped the combs out before doing that. Bees probably would've left and not came back after he did that, anyway.

I'm hoping to find a decent plot of land in a rural part of Oregon, preferably outside Ashland.

Bee farming is pretty lucrative. Not only is the honey and royal jelly worth a mint, but farmers will you pay you good money to leave one of your hives on their property for a week or two to pollinate their crops. It's also not all that difficult. The bees do most of the work. The main thing is resisting the temptation to go out and harvest your hives everyday.
If you are in the warmer part of Oregon, these guys will do you right.

And here I was hoping I could have Africanized bees to maintain my property's security from local law enforcement.

I think I'll settle for a herd of myotonic (fainting) goats to distract the police.

"So I thought I'd kill them obviously."
Obviously? I am a beekeeper and that statement really exposes his ignorance to me.
Bees are not normally defensive unless some moron comes poking around their hive.
He could have called pest control who would have called a trained beekeeper who understands the nature of these beneficial insects (which help provide 1/3 of our land crops) but he wanted to get his 15 minutes. Hopefully others will learn what NOT to do from this.
