There's another me and his credit's bad.

I've gotten 3 phone calls now (1 from a debt collector and 2 from law firms) looking for someone with the same name as me. The weird thing is that the location that they all have for this guy is a few miles from where I'm originally from on LI.

But I was just able to get the last four of the guy's social and his DOB from this last person that just called me. He's apparently got almost 5 years on me.

Anybody have any suggestions as to how I might keep this from continuing? I can see it becoming a major annoyance and I'm concerned that my credit could end up getting affected. I don't think the guy's intentionally trying to steal my identity. I just must be more searchable or something. I tried doing a search for him. It brought up 9 of us in the whole country and he wasn't one.

request each debt collector to send you a 'validation of debt',
that should have the contract signed by the individual in
addition to any other information regarding the debt, check
your credit report, dont do it online, do it in writing and get
check that they're not tagging you with this guys credit, if
they are contest the incidents of each incorrect entry as being
invalid

when dealing with the debt collectors, record the
conversations and provide them no information other than it's
a case of mistaken identity because all they'll do is amend
what's in the computers to reflect that you're uncooperative
in the collection process, handle all maters after that by
mail, send yours certified and insist that they do the same
