Doctor accused of having sex with patient, sharing drugs [AUSTRALIA]

A DOCTOR who struck up a sexual relationship with a patient allegedly snorted cocaine with her off the desk in his surgery, the Medical Tribunal heard yesterday.

The woman gave evidence that rather than going out on dates, she would visit the doctor at his New South Wales Central Coast surgery, where they snorted cocaine off his desk "countless times".

"We had a lot of sex in the surgery, a lot of drugs," she said yesterday.

As a hearing began into complaints of professional misconduct and unsatisfactory professional conduct - which could lead him to his being struck off - the names of both doctor and his patient were suppressed.

The doctor is defending the complaints, with his barrister Michael Bozic SC telling the tribunal: "These allegations are very strenuously denied."

Counsel for the Health Care Complaints Commission Mark Lynch said the sexual relationship began in 2004 when the doctor was 45.

The woman, who says she first met the doctor when he treated her son for a dog bite, was 26.

She had begun using marijuana at age 16 and suffered from obsessive compulsive disorder.

The doctor prescribed her drugs and referred her to a psychiatrist - who eventually reported him to the Medical Board.

The woman said they had a "mutual attraction" and by August 2004, they were having sex and had moved in together. The first time he came to her home, he allegedly offered her cocaine. When she declined, the tribunal heard, he put the drug on his tongue and kissed her.

"I desperately loved him," the woman said.

But the tribunal heard it was a volatile, tempestuous relationship, with his "inappropriate sexual obsessions" sparking arguments.

The woman gave evidence that the doctor supplied her with prescription drugs, including Valium and morphine. She alleged another patient supplied him with cocaine and ecstasy, and that he told her nurses at his medical centre would snort cocaine with him.

The woman said they got engaged and were making wedding plans, but their relationship fell apart after he allegedly tried to choke her on a trip to Melbourne in late 2004. The tribunal heard the doctor deposited $10,000 into her account in January 2005 after the "furious" woman told him she wanted to report him to the HCCC.

Two months later she was admitted to a psychiatric clinic.

The woman told the tribunal she saw the doctor again in December 2005, having sex with him three times in his surgery.

Her psychiatrist lodged a complaint against the doctor in January 2006.

The hearing continues.

Okay seriously...WHY do articles always have to tie marijuana into some weird myth?  What, is OCD a side affect of marijuana now?

I thought the same thing when I read that until I realized they were advocating the use of marijuana for OCD :thumbup:
