Growing pan cyans & Humidity
    #9259984 - 11/17/08 12:37 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

My fruiting chamber is a tub inside a tube with a fish take heater at the bottom. I'm trying to keep the temp between 78 and 82 with the humidity between 90 and 95.

I can not keep the humidity under 100. I've tried using a bowl with a little perlite and I still can not get it under a hundred. even with no perlite in the tub it reads 100 percent humidity at the temp of 80.

What can be done to lower my humidity?

Your gauge may not be accurate.

Calibrate your hygrometer.  You want lots of fresh air and as close to 100% humidity as you can get.  There is never a time when you need to lower your humidity.

depending on what kind it is, to calibrate (if humidity shows too high) if you have a gas oven throw it in there but do not turn it on (usually stays around 100 degrees in there from the pilot) check on it in ahalf hour and if it is the kind with a screw in the back turn until it reaches zero. Hope this helps

I don't think that's a good idea.. 1st of all I think it would extremely difficult to actually have the RH down to 0%, and 2nd of all you wanna calibrate the hygro in the range you'll be using it in - which is a near 100% environment, which you'd do a damp towel test on.

There is when growing pans, which I believe he is.

Are you?

100% with pans will cause them all to abort.

Substrate temerature: 79-84 degrees f.
Duration: 7-12 days.
CO2: 10,000 ppm or higher.
Fresh air exchanges: 0 per hour
Type of casing: Standard peat based casing, 1/2-1 inch.
Post casing pre-pinning:
Relative humidity: 90+ %
Substrate temperature: 79-84 degrees f.
CO2: 10,000 ppm or higher.
Fresh air exchanges: 0 per hour
Light: Incubation in total darkness.
Primordia formation:
Relative humidity: 95+ %
Air temperature: 75-80 degrees f.
CO2: 5,000 ppm or lower.
Fresh air exchanges: 2 per hour
Light: Diffuse natural or fluorescent grow-lights.
Cropping:
Relative humidity: 85-92 %
Air temperature: 75-84 degrees f.
CO2: 5,000 ppm or lower.
Fresh air exchanges: 2 per hour
Harvest stage: When caps are covex.
Flushing interval: 5-7 days.
Light: Diffuse natural or fluorescent grow-lights.

Moisture content: 90-92% water, 8-10% dry matter.

Comments: This rapidly growing species fruits readily on pasteurized wheat straw provided a thin layer of casing is applied 1/2 inch. No more than one week passes from the time of casing to the first flush.

Is that outdated info?

I also noticed that in another tek for pans in the grow mushrooms section of the website mentions the use of the oven tek.

I am growing Pan cyans

Hippie chick, I read your grow and blue helix (I think thats his name) Yall definitely mention keeping the Rh low, but in your grow you said you had it at a 100 Rh right? IT wasn't the best pin set but it would make me happy.

So my question is will 100% Rh for sure kill them?

Feel free to chime back in Roger Rabbit.

Also anyone recommend a ACCURATE hygrometer I can buy off the internet, walmart, Lowe's or a place in town.

Thanks for your help

Right in that info it says Cropping: 85-92%
Meaning that anything over that when you're fruiting is wrong.

I've grown them many times at near saturation humidity.  I've never noticed it causing aborts.  Fresh air is the key.

If you look in that grow log, you'll see that most of mine turned black and aborted because of the high humidity::(

Once those caps get moisture on them , they tend to turn:thumbdown:

As pointed out, that chart lists 85%-92% for cropping.

I try to shoot for 82%-85% humidity with pans and a lot of FAE.

I'm not sure what you read, but this

has a lot of grest info from some very good cultivators .
