Houston Mushroom ID request
    #9228567 - 11/12/08 02:33 AM (15 years, 4 months ago)

Hi all, Ive been lurking here for a while, reading all the good stuff, and well decided to do some hunting... I actually live a few steps away from a cow field, which I can easily access after Ike blew the fence away that separates the neighborhood and the field, but the thought never even crossed my mind to go hunting for some reason, even after seeing the herd of cows walk past right next to the fence...

Anyways... I went in today and walked around the very wet field (it has been raining a lot here) for about 15min and found these (2) on some cow dung.

looks slightly different with flash:

Habitat: Cow pasture, growing directly out of dung

Gills: Blackish.

Stem: Thin

Cap: Brown to gray, about an inch in diameter

Spore print color: On its way... will post pics after I take them tomorrow, if there hasn't been any preliminary ID yet.

Bruising: Not sure... I think none. The break in the cap you see in the pics was me trying to bruise it about 5min prior to taking the pics.

Location: South Houston

....

Thank you in advance

Looks like it could be an a bit battered and dried up Panaeolus Campanulatus

Looky here:

and here:

and here:

It definitely isn't anything highly psychoactive.

Aww damn... Thanks though.

I'll walk around in the next few days to see if I find anything else.. It's been raining like crazy tonight.

It's looking more and more like an old, slightly dehydrated specimen of Campanulatus to me.

[EDIT] Aw, you beat me to it, LL. Confirmed then.

Welcome to the shroomery gandre!

If your hunting for actives your going to need to find a new spot, at least until spring.
I'm a couple hours east of you so our seasons are pretty similar.

P. cubensis maybe be fruiting in the cow fields but they will be hard to find (if there are even any of them).

Maybe try looking for G. spectabilis in a heavily wooded area with downed trees.
