well i guess im gonna need better pictures for the suillus
i do want to try eating one, so ill go back and take better pics, maybe bring home a few of the smaller specimens for examination

i didnt find too many of them though, and i have a feeling they might be pseudobrevipes, as it appreas theres some white stuff on the tops of the caps, maybe a veil remnant from the early stages?

Awesome pictures, i love the oak leaf in the first one.  The honey looking ones could be Tubaria.

thanks! i had no idea where to start, though i did realize the more mature ones were starting to go umbilicate.
still, i looked through a bunch of tubaria species, and i cant seem to locate it in there.
the veils on these were just too outstanding.

i did think cortinariaceae though, i guess alan or someone will probably nail it.
i can always go back and make a spore print, its a beautiful place.

this would make them, the rare but unedible, Suillus Pseudobrevipes?

Yeah,I'd call them that.

The honey looking ones are honeys. They can be very small sometimes. I like the leaf as the background in the first picture.

hey nice pictures captain
i love the armillarea , there is hardly any other mushrooms with those white veil, and that grow on wood all with have rusty or brown color or dark colors ....

the color in this pictures is real good , did you use those russula in any way , where they pepery , alan have the crazy  habit to taste everything ,,i will never think  i will see him make faces  but it was funny with a tylopilus , that how i begging to taste russula , with him , some taste really peppery , some other are just mild i guees you can eat those  but speaking of pink russula we have one almost  as that color and with pink stem is call here russula olivacea sometimes with more dark purple color on cap , they smell farinacius  and taste good.

this picture is real good to  is that leave from and oak  i guees the mushrooms are some hypholoma  but maybe not .

nice work

thanks for all the love and ID's guys, ill go back tomorrow and grab all those honeys!

i had no clue they were that small!!!
the honeys ive found in the past were nearly 2ft long stems, caps 8 inches across, coming out of a giant dead root in a mossy hillside.

i love the look of these young honeys, the little dots and such all over the cap!

and cactu, yes that was oak, and no im not courageous enough to taste a russula yet, i stay away from tasting most wild mushrooms so far.

thanks again guys, ill post harvest pics of the honeys tomorrow, they were everywhere!

well i went back tonight for a handful or so
some stupid junior high kids were down there smoking ganja in the bushes, i jumped over some logs and was like "dont mind me" and started harvesting

they kept asking me if i was gonna trip balls and if they could buy mushrooms from me
:ilold:

then they are like "i heard u can die from eating mushrooms you find in the forest, and they arent good if they dont grow on cow shit"
:ilold:

heres the few i grabbed, ill go back tomorrow for the rest when the morons arent there.

anyway heres the pics

:awesome:

any suggestions for preparing these things? obviously they are a little dirty.
aurora says use the caps only?

and are they worth cultivating? if so ill print them and try growing em sooner or later.

yes cap only stem are too tought  sometimes but you can use until the middle of it where it becomes harder , or a bit less .

i sauten in butter add onios and chile verde and that it a few tortillas or you can add cream  and will improve all flavours
enjoy

thanks louise

well i did find some slightly dehydrated corn tortillas in the back of the fridge, i saved the best caps to make spore prints with, and used mostly immature caps for the meal.

i added everything i mentioned, and tried a mushroom first
and my conclusion is:
if they are fruiting en mass like i found them, i will definitely collect them for food in the future, but they are quite similar to portobellos in flavor, only a slight difference, so if theres just a few ill let em sporulate and live on. :sun:

i had just enough to fill my taco up, and it was pretty good.
most caps were too dirty to use, so hard to clean out the dirt from the gills!
while doing so a slug came out of one

at first my stomach was a little uneasy, but they seem to be sitting pretty good right now.

ide definitely recommend them to someone whos never tried them

thanks everyone, im gonna go get more tomorrow and go on a second hunt, ill let you all know how that goes.

yeah this was the first time i try honey , i also recomend then , they are easy to id in my opinion no look alikes if you make spore print, and have a ring , ring less can be more tricky  .

honey are one of the mushrooms that produce  million and trillions of spores , sometimes i stare at then in contract light how they fall  and go with the wind sometimes like a white cloud, i only have see that in few mushrooms and also pleurotus are good at that,
honey oregonense is the biggest  organism  in the earth , be carefull  when inviting such a organism to your house .
:grin:yeah  you will have to make a space for yourself  latter  but as you said you will never be without food  :vineclimb:  :bouncey:
