Yoga Breath
    #920217 - 09/30/02 06:44 PM (21 years, 5 months ago)

If you think have to think your way into being, are you being "it" all?
in being is there thinking involved or is action a natural result of being.

How do you be it all? Enlightened? A master?

Mind silent(being) meditation?

I have stumbled upon the yoga breath quite accidentaly today and i am now able to hold my thoughtless state of being at will. I have learned that out of this state of breath meditation, being results. All my sorrows just dissapeared at once, without a trace, i had put them there since i was a child. This breath that i was doing was destroying my negative karma, and my true state of being was coming into view, innocense.

P.M. me if you think it is time for your awakening?

The yoga breath really is a beautiful thing, it puts you in a beautiful frame of mind. It has brought me immense amounts of peace in moments of chaos, and made the mushroom experience all the more beautiful.

I am impressed that you are able to achieve this so quickly. Many Eastern philosophies believe that time and space are simply illusions and the only way to overcome these illusions is by completely quieting the mind. Yoga breathing is a common way to achieve this state.
I practice it regularly (tonight is my yoga night) and continue to work toward that perfectly still mind. Even if thoughts creep in, it's still a great way to relieve stress.

Namaste

I have been taught that generally at the end of a session you lay in the corpse pose and work to first relax your body. As you find yourself relaxing you work to also quiet your mind. This is achived by focusing your thoughts on your breathing. As you find your mind begins to wander, bring it back to your breath, focus on your breath, and try to keep your mind still.

There are other ways as well. Try sitting on the floor in a comfortable position. Take a deep inhalation, hold for just a moment. As you exhale chant OM. It should actually sound like "aaaauuuummmn". Ideally your exhalation should take twice as long as your inhalation (not critical, requires decent lung capacity). Try this for five breaths as a start and work up to one or two minutes.

Peace

Don't forget curry, lots of curry...

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

In reply to:

It's not something to be achieved, it is quite literally a method of breathing. You breath in through the nose deeply and slowly filling your body with breath and breath out through the nose again slowly. It's proper technique to breathe in this manner during yoga practice but it's also good whenever you're stressed, or have a headache or something. It alllows a lot more oxygen into the bloodstream than we usually get.

As a side note, if you ever injure yourself enough to go into shock, yoga breathe and shock won't take hold nearly as strongly, the breath will support you, calm you and allow you to enter a healthy frame of mind in which you'll actually be able to deal with your problem. A rock fell on me and ripped up my hand and i used to yoga breath to keep myself together, it worked. i hiked back home- 6 hours- in euphoria, feeling no pain. i didn't go into shock.
