Psychedelic Kenny Rogers

One day I was watching TV, and I flipped past CMT, and they were talking about Kenny Rogers in the late 60's. They talked about how he and his first band "First Edition" had a hit with a psychedelic tune called "Just Dropped In (to see what condition my condition was in)".
I guess that they made a psychedelic song to capitalize on the acid craze at the time. You should have seen them playing the song in concert. They had a little light show going on, and stuff. Kenny said that while he(and his band?) had never indulged in any psychedelic, people thought that because he sung that song that he was "in tune". Apparently, some people thought that he was the new speaker for the counter-culture........ LOL. Can you imagine a bunch of heads all tripping to Kenny Rogers?
I've never heard the entire song, but I sure as hell wouldn't trip to the song. I mean, read these lyrics......
In reply to:
(Mickey Newbury)
(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my condition was in)
I woke up this mornin' with the sundown shinin' in I found my mind in a brown paper bag within I tripped on a cloud and fell-a eight miles high I tore my mind on a jagged sky I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my condition was in)
I pushed my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in I watched myself crawlin' out as I was a-crawlin' in I got up so tight I couldn't unwind I saw so much I broke my mind I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my condition was in)
Someone painted "April Fool" in big black letters on a "Dead End" sign I had my foot on the gas as I left the road and blew out my mind Eight miles outta Memphis and I got no spare Eight miles straight up downtown somewhere I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
I said I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in Yeah yeah oh-yeah
I like how they keep making reference to The Byrds psychedelic anthem "Eight Miles High", but it sounds like the guy who wrote it is describing a REALLY REALLY bad trip. "I tore my mind on a jagged sky"??? Sounds like he's describing brain damage or something.
So because of the fact that the writer and singer were way out of touch with what state of mind is needed for tripping, as well as the fact that.......Kenny ROGERS for christs sake, I consider this a lame song, and would never trip to it. I'd love to have a copy though. I find it fascinating that even people like Rogers tried to cash in on the flower power era.
My general question is.....what do you think of this song?

I have never heard "Just Dropped In....", and i've never seen "The Big Lebowski", but I do know that Willie Nelson covered that song years later. Kenny Rogers and The First Edition were the first to do it.
I'm sure some day i'll have this on cd. I plan on having the greatest collection of psychedelic music of all time some day. Even if the song is lame like this one. haha
Has anyone heard this song before??
^^^^this is what they looked like during this time

I have no idea if that's kenny rodgers singing or not but the big lebowski is one of my favorite films and i just watched it again the other night. lyrically speaking it is a rather lame song but i think at least worth a listen. just watch the movie, it's great and it's a great scene that it's in too. i still laugh my ass off every time i watch that film!

thats about the most un-lsdlike song i think i've ever heard. acid is so much more beautiful than those superficial lyrics.
