Storing Mycobags for a couple weeks?
    #9174869 - 11/02/08 09:52 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

Guys I bought a 5 pack of MadSeason bags, and Im only starting w/ 2.. Now because Ive heard about bags drying out, I thought it would be a good idea to put them in some zip-lock bags.. Ive had them in there for a couple days, and I already see a bit of condensation on the inside of the zip-lock, which is showing that the bags are losing a bit of moisture, even inside there.. Mike from MadSeason said its not a good idea tho, as its anaerobic environment in there which could invite contams.. But if I dont have them in there wont they steadily lose more and more moisture? He said to just keep them rolled up, but the way these are rolled the patch is on the outside.. I heard about someone saying before they saved some for a while, but the patch was on the inside.. Anyone have any info?  Its just that the humidity is not high in my room...

I think "mike" answered all of your questions.

Knock them up later using 30-60cc of LC :hehehe:

I'd avoid ordering more than you know you'll need.  Just order lots of filter patch bags and make your own as needed, then time will be on your side.

So def take them outta there now? And I'd noc these 3 w/ LC right now if I had some.. I just didn't wanna do all 5 at once w/ spore sol. and have all 5 not work or something.. I noc'ed a couple Friday morning, and the bags are already getting puffy at the bottom which I've read should be a good sign..

If you have too much substrate, buy a bigger tub.   You could get a MMOONNNSTER pinset with that kind of volume.

you have no need for a "tub" when working with substrate bags...
how many times do you need to be proven wrong?
Besides... this thread is asking about storage of bags, not what to do with them later...

Yea I went for bags so I didn't have to deal w/ all that.. Now that I've been on the site reading tho, I *may* think about spawning something to bulk in a dub-tub or something.. But for now these bags I'm going in-vitro..

That was a joke.  I thought the punctuation with smileys made that obvious.  I'm a fan of sarcasm so I guess I'll need to tag my future responses.

  Yeah I re-read that and you have a point.  I'm sorry if I came off as arrogant.  I'm still pretty novice to the whole hobby but I do try to answer extreme newb ?'s to the best of my ability, simply because I was there once and this is a pretty intriguing activity that generates a lot of questions really fast.

I was thinking about taking 2 bags, knocking them up, and put them into a coir/verm case thingy? so i would go 1/2 inch of verm, bag stuff, then coir with some coffe grounds in it. Also i was wanting to knock these up with an LC and after looking around i found one i could understand which is                              (http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5238137/page/0/fpart/all/vc/1 if i went with this LC method should i'd shoot ~60cc into a mycobag. Also, how does this idea sound for a grow project?

I can tell you from first hand experience that they will last for a few weeks.  I had to store mine for 18 days.  I just rolled them up, put them in the box they came from and put them in the fridge.  Took em out let them sit till they were at room temp and did my dirty deeds with them.

How detrimental could leaving them in a ziplock bag be? I really don't believe that it's an "anaerobic" environment inside the ziplock, which means no oxygen in there.. How could there not be oxygen in there? For there to be no oxygen, something in there would have had to consume it.. How would that be possible?

I don’t know any more than you do about what it will or wont do to the bags. I will say that it is an anaerobic environment in there. Imagine putting a plastic bag over your head and fastening it at the bottom. what happens? You suffocate due to a lack of O2

Exactly- cuz YOU consumed the oxygen.. If it's anaerobic in there right now, then what consumed the oxygen?? lol..

a small amount will go in (and some out) through the filter patch. the rest will squeeze out of the bag and into the environment through any space it can get out. some air will still be in there so it wont be a complete anaerobic environment but damn close. regardless i would (and have) taken mikes advice from the mad season. if any one is going to know anything about these bags i would think it would be him

I opened the bags a little bit.. That way there's no possibility of there being any type of anaerobic environment in there lol.. So now I don't see there being an issue [hopefully]
