Shotgun FC - What to do about drip

I made a shotgun FC according to the RR vids and posts here.
I am having a problem with water collecting in the tray I put below the FC after misting (The FC is on risers about an inch and a half above the tray). I find that I have to mist occasionally to keep the humidity at 95-99%. Ive already taped up several rows of holes. Should I just let it evaporate? Should water even be dripping from the chamber?

I've never had water drip. You're probably over misting, or don't have the five inches of perlite that's recommended. Why would you tape over holes? RR

I suppose it's probably closer to 3 inches. I'll add a couple more inches and see if that makes a difference. I taped over some of the holes because I was having a hard time keeping humidity at level.

Hey , It shouldn't really drip unless you have not let the perlite drain enough before loading it into the FC or you are misting more than "Occasionally". Take all your trays/cakes out and go to the bath and tip it on it's side to let all the water drain out, load the FC up again and only mist when needed. Maybe you have a dodgy hygrometer-this is not an un common problem;)

Hehe ... yeah. Hygrometers ... I've tried 3 digi's a cheapo analogue and I now have a decent analogue that I bought from a local grow store.

It will need to be calibrated. If you built the terrarium per the tek, your humidity will be 90+ percent. Calibrate by wrapping in a damp towel for an hour, and then adjust the screw so the dial reads 99%. RR

I found that you can get dripping in an RR FC during misting if you are misting to close to the sides or you are not using fine enough mist. If the stream is concentrated enough and it hits the sides it'll run right down the sides of the FC and drip right out of the bottom.
Remember to point the nozzle up and let the water fall on the cakes and make sure you are getting the finest mist possible from your nozzle. Avoid getting the sides of the chamber too damp.
With regard to the standing water in the try, drain it off. In my experience, standing water can be a bad thing. The only exception here has been my monotubs. I line the bottom with a black garbage bag. No matter how much duct tape I use the water still gets under it and wind up with standing water. I like the bags because they prevent side pinning due to the bag sticking to the substrate. Anyway I've yet to have a problem and I don't take my substrate out of the tub between flushes. I just mist. Take that for what it's worth.
I wish you luck. I'm sure you'll do fine. You appear to be observant and cautious. That will serve you well. Keep up the hard work.
