I whacked 'em in the head!
    #9142443 - 10/27/08 02:58 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

I was having a discussion wherein the discussee stated a firm belief in determinism, so I whacked 'em in the head.
:fishslap:

"JESUS CHRIST!" What the hell did you hit me for?" he exclaimed.

"I had no choice," I calmly responded.

I was having a discussion wherein the discussee stated a firm belief in that all was maya and everything was an illusion, so I whacked 'em in the head.
:fishslap:

"VISHNU!" What the hell did you hit me for?" he exclaimed.

"Don't get excited, your pain is only an illusion," I pointed out.

I think the moral of these vignettes is obvious.

A fish slap with fresh, wild trout is much more effective than using flash-frozen, farm-raised salmon, but one must use the tools at hand.

You don't seem like the fish killing type to me.

More of a PC hiker who likes to camp out and take shrooms under the heavens and then go home and play the slots and look at flash frozen farm raised vegas tits.

That you're deluding yourself by believing that other people exist in the first place?

What are you, a heap of syntactical letters expressed in 1's and 0's trying to convince me of your consciousness?

Most people who claim its all an illusion are still trying to proove it to themselves because they think they have to hold onto it as a belief in order to stay free

Determinism to my mind doesn't seem any more far-fetched than any other existing philosophical proposition. That doesn't mean that I agree with it.

Despite many convincing components within the determinism argument, it seems a real barrier is defining causality or a chain of events without the human input of time and perception. Where one event ends and where another ends is not an absolute.

As Alan Watts discussed a few times, reality™ mimics vibration or flowing more so than a picture show of this-then-that sequencing.

How does this disprove determinism at all?

He wasn't attempting to disprove it, he was demonstrating the hypocrisy of those who claim to hold certain beliefs.
