I don't reuse for mycological purposes, but If I had to, I'd wash them with very hot water and AB dish soap. You could possibly boil them without melting. I might be thinking of another material though...

By the time I start doing agar work, I'll have some $$, so I'll be able to afford a UV-C lamp and I'll sterilize them with that.

A sleeve of 20 its like 6 bucks, I know you can find them by the case for very cheap. Someone on here posted where they bought a case of 500 for under like 50. I would just buy more....

I wondered if that would work. I've never used a light to sterilize anything before. I bet I could find one at the the university supply depot for real cheap.
The stuff shouldn't melt even if sterilizing at 15 psi according to its specs. But I'm wondering if it would warp and deform.
If its above it's "glass" temperature, yes it will deform.

Yeah, I've tried it they deform in the PC.
Boiling them wont deform them tho. It really is just being cheap to go through the process of re-using them. Buy them by the case and you'll save some money. They are handy on the desk to put thumb tacks and usb sticks and shit into I guess....

If you're hardcore about reusing petri dishes because you don't want to be adding plastic to landfills or some such, invest in glass petri dishes.
I believe RogerRabbit has posted before that in a nutshell, glass ones are too much of a pain to mess with (sterilizing, fragile, etc) and the plastic ones are cheap enough in bulk to throw away after a single use.
Perhaps you should look into buying some plastic petri dishes that have multiple sectors - plastic dividing lines that divide the petri dish into 2-4 sections. They may make some that have even more, but too many and it might be too hard to work with.

I really wouldn't bother trying to sterilize plastic dishes. Cynmar has borosilicate dishes cheap. If you aren't doing a ton of transfers all the time then glass plates aren't too bad. If you are isolating a lot of strains, then cleaning and sterilizing all those plates can become a real pain in the ass. In that case, Cynmar also has pretty cheap plastic dishes that would be better. You can also find good deals on ebay.
