Myc or Wet Spot? (pics)
    #9108671 - 10/21/08 07:46 AM (15 years, 5 months ago)

Bought a half gallon rye jar from mushbox recently.  inoculated 4 days ago with amazonian.  Starting to show signs of life.  After reading the contaim faq Im worried it might be wet spot.  Not really sure so here are the pics.

So what's the verdict?

Mold grows fast Myc grows quite slower. Wait a little and see how fast it spreads, once its all over you should be able to tell the difference.

Wet spot is not a mould.

You're right. I believe it still spreads quicker than myc does though. Either way once it spreads it becomes very apparent.

Once you know its bad toss it.

Here's an update, day 8 after innoculating.
Just doesn't look quite right to me, but I'm admittedly inexperienced as this is my first rye jar.  The grains look pretty dry until they get pressed up against the glass (especially the ones with growth).  Temperature has been kept in the 70-75 region.

edit: looks like forum resized these, so here's the original uploaded to imageshack.
