Who has been the greatest live act ever?
The best band or act you ever seen?.
The Stones, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Queen, Pink Floyd, The Who, Bowie, Nirvana or someone else?
This Day in Music have just started a poll to find out. If you fancy voting for who you think should win go to http://www.thisdayinmusic.com
You can vote for any act, just go to 'other' on the list.

The best act ever? Probably Shakespeare's plays during the regin of the good ol' Queen Elizabeth. Although I wasn't born then so I can't say for sure.

I am beyond unqualified to answer this question. I've heard the Grateful Dead were sweet?
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

311 has consistently played the best live shows I've seen. Halloween of 99' was fucking AWESOME.

The question being posed might as well be, "Who is your favorite band?"
I don't really see how you can run a poll for greatest live act ever... everyone's perspectives are skewed by their tastes.

Jethro Tull, closely followed by The Who. Meatloaf also put on one hell of a live show back in the day, but I don't like his music as much as the other two.

every single one of you is wrong. zeppelin are easily the greatest live act ever. who else played songs so differently and even better than the album versions on a consistent basis? who else played for 3 to 5 hours every night? who else sat down mid show for an acoustic set? all zeppelin awesomeness.
as great as opeth are, theyre not a great live band. the music is all so complex they're all pretty stagnant throughout the set just playing. floyd pretty much just did album versions with little real differences between albums and live versions. porcupine tree are similar.
all awesome stuff, but seriously, listen to LZII and put on thank you. then listen to thank you from orlando on 08/31/71. album version gets owned royally on numerous occassions this tour. same with every other zeppelin song ever played live. zeppelin = win.
