We need to encourage programs such as Teach for America and Troops to Teachers where people, after having served in the military, can go right to teaching and not have to take these examinations which -- or have the certification that some are required in some states. -Mccain
If you don't have a degree in the field you are teaching, then the probability of you being a good teacher is nil this is one of the worst things I've heard Mccain say, he clearly has as strong bias towards troops Obama said earlier in the debate something completely opposite to what Mccain proposed Mccain wants more teachers who are less qualified heres what Obama wants
Quote:
I think it's going to be critically important for us to recruit a generation of new teachers, an army of new teachers, especially in math and science, give them higher pay, give them more professional development and support in exchange for higher standards and accountability. -Obama

The main cause of America's poor elementary school system is the stalinist system and the teacher's union. (where the latter is should be blamed for enforcing the former)

In all other profession, first you have to have good performance before you get a pay raise. I wonder why teachers think they are entitled to the opposite, getting a pay raise before exhibiting good performance?

we are talking about these troops teaching stuff like trigonometry without a degree in math how do you expect their students to truly understand math if the teacher doesn't even

in exchange for higher standards and accountability so the standards are high thus they exhibit good performance or they don't get the job

I think the main problem lies in the curriculum, not the teachers. We're talking grade school and even high school here, it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to teach the material effectively. Our school curriculum really needs to focus on the basics and teach it in a disciplined way, so it sticks.

it's also the system, no child left behind left the education behind, they're advancing kids without education to the next grade, some teacher are telling the kids to cheat to make the grades

This show is biased, and has a kind of trashy news magizine style... but I think rings very true.

Doesnt matter, because I would never join the teachers union and am thus blacklisted from nearly all elementary and high school teaching jobs.

Hah, thanks.
Coaster, I know you are interested in teaching. I also know your a very liberal guy. I highly suggest watching that youtube video I posted. Take 40mins when your relatively unstoned and watch it. Even if you dont agree, youll understand more about what the right thinks about our education problems.

there should be some kind of certification process, but I think it needs to be streamlined. I have a degree, but I'd still have to jump through hoops to get a CA teaching credential, and i just don't have the time, money or patience for that.
