Interesting.  How are you distinguishing between them?  The chips instead of a log?

Yellow?

These are orange or reddish:

These, identified earlier as Hypholoma fasciculare , were yellow:

From this thread.

Kuo says "bright sulfur yellow to greenish yellow when fresh."  Those do not appear bright sulfur yellow to me in this thread.

OP used the word yellow twice in the description.  If these were edible brick caps, he probably would not have.

I can read, and even count, but I've seen too many mushroom stains described as blue when they weren't.  Tasting doesn't help either because Brick Tops can be bitter like Sulfur Tuft.

The safer bet would be poisonous Sulfur Tufts.  That way he won't eat them.  Also, I know what you are talking about.  I picked some Brick Tops today and the last color I would have used is yellow.

Interesting side note:  These mushrooms were fruiting in an area where I haven't looked for them in over 15 years. I went there specifically looking for Brick Tops.  They were within 50 feet of where I originally found them, in 1992.  Evidently, they don't get out much.

Goodnight.

i don't think their actual colour would show well on those camera phone pics anyway... they seem to have a strong green tint to them (the photos)

The specimen i collected were more mature than the others in the area and a few shades more orange, however the others were a fairly bright yellow.
You don't need to worry about me eating them though, they don't appear to appetizing :P

I'm not too concerned about that, considering the taste of sulfur tufts
