Calocybe indica, aka The "Milky Mushroom"

So there's next to no info on this species here on this site, and a Google search mostly provides information from people wanting to export them from India.
Soooo... any ideas on where I could find them? Even a dried example might work if they can be revived. I think this would be a cool species to attempt to grow.

I was looking for that species for a while and finally gave up to work on other things. But if it ever becomes available, I am definitely interested.

I'm currently working on getting ahold of it, I'm in contact with a few people right now.
If I get ahold of the culture and expand it (which I think I will be able to do), I'll pass it around to anyone who wants a piece.

Don't we have members in India, who could send a print to one of us, so we grow and spread them?

Is it only found in India (wild)?

Yes, actually, there is a Shroomery member from India that I've been in contact with. He tells me it will take some time, but he's trying to hook me up. It's been a few months so I'm not holding my breath or anything...

Alright guys...I may have a chance of getting some tissue.
Now I have the option of fresh, dried & freeze dried.
Now I highly doubt that I could get it this far fresh...so I'm wondering from you fine folks what is my best option to expand/clone this pretty little fellow. I'm not sure if plain dried or freeze-dried would be the better of the two. I may ask him to send a fresh one in a seperate wrap just in case I can get a spore print/fresh sample. Heck, I'll try to get all three. I haven't confirmed yet, but after getting in touch with almost 20 people & a university professor, I've finally got a chance so its why I'm asking now instead of tripping over this silly option before its too late.

I would say that if the mushroom was properly dried, then it would still have viable spores.
I found this video on the Youtube yesterday:
I don't speak Hindi, but it's still pretty interesting. It looks as if they pack tubular bags with spawn and straw, then they cut the bags in half after colonization, pack the substrate down and apply a casing layer.
My other thoughts here:
1. Is that lime pasteurization or something else? It looks like some kind of chemical process. 2. What the heck are those supplements they're adding? 3. What is that spawn made of? 4. What the heck is in that casing material? Dirt? It looks like it's unpasteurized. 5. Neat looking shrooms! 6. If this is going to be marketed commercially in the US, they need to come up with a better name. 7. Why do they peel the stems before packaging? Won't that shorten the shelf life?
I think I've seen someone here grow king stropharia using a similar method. I'd try this myself if I grew anything that needed to be cased.

2. Looks like Gypsum and...I have no idea what the other one is. Its super fine powder looks like you'd buy from a big shop, it had english writing on it... 3. The spawn looks like Millet/Sorghum
The heck are those tiny tiny little mushrooms they pick out?
They look really meaty. Probably really tasty too.

The tiny ones are probably small Coprinus mushrooms. They're mentioned on the Kerala U. site as a common pest species.

Cool, I hope you get a sample! I'd go for the plain dried ones and put gill fragments on agar. Freeze dried may be risky. Who knows if its done properly and if C. indica tolerates freezing? A fresh sample will definitely arrive liquid and rotten.

Nice find Paresthesia!

Must be a cold process, as they are using plastic drums. When the pour in the liquid supplement, they say 'formalin'. This chemical is used in Agaricus cultivation to disinfect casing soil.

Two types of dirt and gypsum or lime?
I wouldn't worry too much about the exact procedure. Possibly several casing methods will work.

Hey I found these links about that farm in Kerala, India. http://www.livemint.com/2008/03/26235919/Hobby-to-biz-Kerala-takes-to.html
http://www.blonnet.com/life/2003/08/25/stories/2003082500100200.htm
http://www.hindu.com/2009/01/29/stories/2009012953850300.htm
I'm sure someone can email them at info@kissankerala.net and get a response in english
Supposedly they primarily speak Malayalam in Kerala
My guesses on those questions 1) looks like a little bleach + some powder 4) yea it looks like top soil + gypsum(maybe) + lime (you can hear her say lime)

Cool video.
Dig that sterile technique ?
That straw was dry, and probably untreated. I wonder how they hydrated it.
The spawn looked like chinese "coix" barley.
I didn't think the lady was peeling the stems, just bits with dirt, etc., like you do with wild mushrooms.
Thanks for sharing.

They hydrated it by dunking in the drum filled with water. 2:45

At 5.16 the straw is dry and she's stuffing it in bags and spawning it.
I saw the soak part, did they dry it again after ? If so why ?
Makes me wish I paid better attention in my Languages of India course.

I don“t understand what the speaker are saying, but I listened something like formalin and Bavistin, just a guess.
