I havent eaten meat in over 4 years, and Ive been craving a reuben just as long. I decided to do something about it.

Ingredients:
Rye Bread
Vegan Mozorella
Sourkraut
veg. cornbeef
veg. thousand island

Vegan Cornbeef Ingredients(PER sandwhich):
5-6 slices thinly sliced Tempeh
1/4 tsp Cumin
1/4 tsp Paprika
1/4 tsp Black Pepper
1/4 tsp Salt
1-2 tbsp Olive oil

Vegan thousand island dressing ingredients:
1 lb silken tofu
1/4 tsp white pepper
3 tbsp olive or canola oil
3 tbsp white vinegar
2 tbsp maple syrup
2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp mustard powder
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp pickle relish

1. ,BLEND all of the thousand island ingredients in a blender/mixer, makeing sure to scrape any off ingredients off the sides so that it is all mixed as well as possible.
2. Place it in an airtight container and stick it in the refrigerator while preparing everything else. Preheat oven to 325.
3. Heat sour kraut in a small saucepan on low heat.
4. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan, thinly slice tempeh into strips and allow to fry on medium heat.
5. Add paprika, cumin, salt and pepper to frying tempeh, stir so it is coated evenly and fry until golden brown.
6. Spread thousand island on both halves of the rye bread, plaze mozorella on one, top with tempeh and sourkraut and place the other piece of bread on top.
7. Place in preheated oven, bake for about 10 minutes, flipping once at 5 minutes.

Nice. Thanks man...this will be the first place I'll turn to use my home made saur kraut :thumbup:

Dude! I just got some home made saurkraut during my trip back home for Thanksgiving. One of my dad's co-workers got some saurkraut made from his Czech mother living in the northwoods (of the US)! He even said it's a strong batch so if it's too strong wash it under water! lol I'm so pumped to throw it on this reuben !

How did you cut the tempeh? I wonder if seiten would work too?

I've never tried slicing tempeh, but I imagine it would take a delicate hand to make thing slices. I've only chopped it to make a sort of mock egg salad & put in between toast - very good!

Seitan is what they use at a restaraunt I go to downtown, it works well. I just prefer the taste of tempeh.
