ID request- species in md
    #8967918 - 09/22/08 12:16 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

Found this growing near a tree, was thinking it could possibly be Panaeolus cinctulus, although it is more than likely just an inedible species found commonly in the area.  Would appreciate any help anybody can give me as I am new to this.

Habitat: grass, found near the base of a tree after rainfall

Gills: medium brown to a light brown

Stem: brownish, pretty sturdy.

Cap: varies from brown to light brown. darker in the center and getting lighter as it nears the edges

Spore print color: in the process of doing that now, will post pictures

Bruising: becomes a darker brown i think

Location: Picked in maryland

Edit: Sorry for the poor picture quality, I will try to upload better pics when I get the chance

Panaeolus cinctulus = panaeolus subbalteatus, which is the commonly used name for that species. Which, in turn, is most likely not what you got there, although it's next to impossible to ID dried LBMs.
