lid holes confusion

I've read that some people say that during the colonization the mycelium also needs to breath so you should leave the holes you inoculated with open, is this right or am i just confused here? wouldn't that allow contamination?

Cover them with micro pore tape.  Then it can still breath

For brf use a top layer of dry verm on top of the brf. That will keep it all out but do not tip them at all.

For grain I leave the lid and foil lose and shake every 3 days after 30% colonization.

lol the dry layer verm now makes sence, i remember reading that i would keep out contams but i was like, why would there be contams if you PC and keep the lid close? lol
so i can remove the tape from the holes and it would be ok?

micropore tape over the holes is good for extra protection.  The verm barrier is safe, but not fool proof.

I took my tape off after a week and colonization increased rapidly. No contam's so far. The dry verm really works wonders

You don't need to shake your grain jars that much.  When you see ~15% colonization, shake your jars and call it good.  Shaking a jar of grain at 75% colonization is defeating the purpose of shaking your jars in the first place.

Dry verm layer for BRF cakes
Silicone injection port
Micro-pore tape (make sure you know which one this is!)
Round shaving band-aid (my preferred method, only because I have a 200 count box of 'em)

All work pretty well for blocking that innoc hole. Since mold spores are microscopic, what's a small little hole for you is a gigantic gaping space for them
