Ive nocced up 8 brf jars, everything been goin smooth,no contams or anything, except it just seems like the jars have just stalled at about 95-98% colonization,Im wonderin if theyre not getting the proper gas exchange,as I left the tinfoil on the top of the jars this whole time so far(been 27 days now,and they been at 95-98% for about 8 days, with no noticable growth). Should I go ahead and remove the tinfoil,so maybey they could breathe a little? Thanks for any suggestions

i dont think the tinfoil id a problem, there probably isnt any problem at all. put the cakes away for a week without even looking at them. they will probably be fine

You have a layer of dry vermiculite over your substrate, right? If you do, removing the tinfoil should be fine. I switched the foil with coffee filters secured with rubber bands a few days after innoc., and colonization sped up noticeably.
If the uncolonized parts are on the bottoms of the jars, turning them upside down might help, too. The cakes should slide down, giving some air to the bottom.
I would only turn them once, though. I've read that too much flipping of jars is no good. Also, I played around with my slowest jar more than the rest, and it was the only jar to contam. Seems like the cake shrunk, allowing the dry verm to get deep into the jar when flipped more than once, introducing whatever contams the verm was holding back.

Yes, I have a layer of dry verm on top Going to go ahead and ditch the foil, and next jars I do,going to use your coffee filter suggestion. Actually the bottom of my jars colonized rather quickly,so no need to flip them. Thanks for your reply

leaving the inoculation holes exposed should give plenty of gas exchange. Coffee filters wont stop things the size of a microbe getting through.
the dry verm layer is the only filter you need. dont move your jars around too much.
