sending email from another person's account

The boss of a friend of mine used his work email account to send an embarrassing email to everyone in his contact list. Seems like that's illegal, but in this case, the person that sent the email actually owns the domain, server and employed my friend.
I couldn't find much on the internet other than ways to hack email and myspace, so I figured I'd get some opinions from the smartest people in the world...

Well, since you seem like a dumb ass, I'd just convince them to use Firefox if they don't already, hope they choose remember password for their email address, then just go into tools, options, security, passwords and get all their passwords.
Wha-la.
BTW, be careful who you do it to and what you say. Here, it could ruin a career or cause multiple suicides (I realized this after talking to the person I was going to email from... good thing, as I was just going to send and then tell them, rather than other way around. I had my mouse on the send button. One click could have caused ruined careers, complete loss of face, and probably at least two suicides.)

ok, I think I didn't explain the situation right...
My friend's boss used my friend's email to send an embarrassing letter to all his contacts. My friend is the one who is at risk of losing alot because of what his boss (former boss) already did...
I did not, nor want to, break into anyone's email.
His boss was the one that did something that might be illeagal.

No hacking necessary, if he controls the server he can gain access to any account he wants. E-mail addresses can also be easily forged even without access to the original account, eg. see http://deadfake.com/. This can be detected by examining the headers, but most people won't know how. I don't think your friend has much recourse unless the e-mail caused him material damage and he wants to pursue it in small claims court (IANAL).

This could qualify as libel. He should sue his cuntfaced boss.
