Coir in Monotub - How do I get a second flush? (Pics)

Hey all,
Below is a picture of my mini-monotub after it's first flush of B+. It did pretty good on it's first flush; I have yet to weigh in.
My question to everyone is this: what do I do now? You can see that the first flush pulled enough water from the substrate to suck it away from the walls. Will this produce a second flush without doing anything or will I need to rehydrate it? If so, what is the best way to go about doing that.
Thank you all for your assistance.

I have always had problems with doing a dunk on a monotub. I always seem to get a contamination from it, but it should be noted that I always used a casing layer. But I am willing to bet it's just a result of my sterile practice and not the tek itself as a lot of people use MM's monotub rehydration tek.

gluvbox thank you for that link. I went ahead and tried that method. I'll just have to wait and see if Brow is right about the contams!

i always get 3-4 flushes from my mono's with no problem with contams and i also use a casing layer.
when you dunk your mono make sure you keep the water just trickeling so that no molds will be able to settle on your project.
one easy way to dunk a mono without crushing immature pins that ive come up with is putting three 7/16" holes 1/2" below your poly holes on each side of your tub spaced out evenly across the lenght of your tub and pushing dowels through them while you dunk your tub. it keeps the sub submerged w/o damaging the sub because the sub usually shrinks this much after the first flush
i was going to make a little pictorial tek about it but havent gotten around to it yet.

I soaked a coir block after 2 flushes and got sloppy and it crumbled when I poured the water out. I figured it would contaminate but for shits and grins I just recased with wet verm and let it recover for a couple days before giving it a lot of FEA and it freaking exploded.
It did get contaminated after the 3rd flush.

You should do that. Not necessarily just for coir but also poo or another similar bulk substrate. And also to clarify my earlier post, I got real lazy and didn't keep the water running, i just let it stagnate with the substrate for a good 4-6 hours. It seems like the only monotub rehydration tek around is the one posted by MM in the link above.

blood, the dowel idea should be a tek for sure. maybe we could write one up, i thought i was the only other one that had thought of that yet. i went looking for dowels and blah blah one day but never got to take the idea any further. def the best way to do it though. i love monotubs but their a bitch to dunk, i bet dowels would be better than another tub sitting on top of the substrate as in MMs tek. anyways, just chimin in. peace man.

I'd love to see a TEK on this method, although its easy enough to visualize. What diameter & length dowel do you use? Do you tape up the dowel holes after dunking? I'd think a thin wire ( e.g. coat hanger ) would be enough to hold down the block if it went all the way across. Maybe a stiff piece of plastic in the middle to hold the center mass down.

ill start to write one up today. i have a tub i need to dunk anyways. i needs to be sturdy though. i don't think a coat hanger would cut it. i tried just two dowels at first on the outside but the sub is so buoyant that is heaved up in the middle and broke in half. and if you just went in the middle the outsides would def pop up. 3 is the magic number.

coat hanger doesnt work, i already tried it and it was quite flimsy. another thing with the dowels is you want to cut the holes barely larger than the size of the dowel for not a lot of slippage. write it up blood. peace.

if doing small tubs you can use the bamboo skewers from a grocery store. when doing large ones and using the dowel method i have found using stainless steel threaded rod works really well and is reusable. its a little expensive in the get go but lasts basically forever.
also if your dowel hole is not perfectly sized you can use nuts and washers to keep it secure.

I just loop wire in an "X" pattern through the holes on my tubs and fill them up in the bathtub.

^holy shit! What's with the Trusted Cultivator mood? That's awesome. I will find out. I've used hemp rope to hold down my subs before. It ended up cutting right through the casing layer. lol.
EDIT: i clicked it. duh!
