Apparently breweries can be drug-free employers
    #8883013 - 09/05/08 03:39 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

Who woulda thunk it!  Despite the fact that their one and only product is a drug, they can claim to be drug-free employers

Quote:

At Independent Brewers United and Pyramid Breweries, we have unfiltered beers and full flavor careers. Pyramid Breweries offers a fun, dynamic work environment...

Pyramid is a drug-free employer.

I could understand if they said they provide a drug-free work environment; they have every right to not want their workers to be on drugs on the job.  But for a drug manufacturer to call themselves drug-free employers just boggles my mind!

(I got nothing against Pyramid Brewery, and kinda wish I had the brewing experience to apply for the job. But the drug-free employer claim just made me laugh)

The irony makes you want to poop... I know.  I was never a big fan of Pyramid's beer anyway though.  Fruity beer.

Alcohol may be a drug... but usually drug-free employers only test for illegal drugs. Although if you went in for your piss test drunk they'd probably think twice before hiring you.

Most people still don't recognize alcohol as a drug. Hell, lots of people don't even recognize prescription medications as drugs.

I had someone fight with me over whether or not Oxycontin was a drug. She wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, obviously.

A lot of places hire you upon completion (and passing) of the piss test, for example Wal-mart. I mean honestly the places where they fire you if in a month you fail the piss test are stupid for business. If you test before hiring you don't have to pay to train someone only to find out you need to fire them later and train someone new, who may or may not pass their test later on! A lot of jobs are all about the turn over (In that I mean they don't hire people they don't think will stay at least a year).

Really they should just not test because its an invasion of privacy. I mean if you show up to work 3 sheets to the wind then yeah it could be a problem but a little recreational substances (on your time) never really hurt anyone!
