McHenry County authorities have burned about 1,200 marijuana plants worth an estimated $1.2 million.

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren says the plants were about five to eight feel tall and were found on less than five acres northeast of Harvard.

The plants' destruction was part of a sting of large-scale rural growing operations.

Police say they found a campsite and personal items near the plants, suggesting someone had been living near them and taking care of them.

A neighbor alerted authorities about the field, and Nygren says the property owner lives out of state and wasn't aware that marijuana was growing on the land.

No arrests have been made in the most recent sting.

y cant they use the plant material for mulsh or something instead of polluting the air

i bet it cost tax payers thousands of dollars to pay those stupid cops. within a few months someone is going to just spread some more seeds and it will grow all back. its like a contamination. no matter what you do, it will grow.
