Three of six jars with cobweb - HELP with a few questions
    #8844959 - 08/28/08 10:41 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

I hope I just didnt ditch three good jars (I am a beginner), but today when I went to look at them I found light grey spots on the BRF pint jars - BELOW where the mycelium were colonizing.  They were simple little spots that didnt connect.  These jars are going on a month at least, so it isnt surprising, but...

Wish I would have taken a picture.

My question is that I am also incubating three good jars and three bulk bags.  The bulk bags are two days old (showing no mycelium) with a filter patch so I am extremely hesitant to go with peroxide.  Do I have much to worry about.

Why those three jars?  Because all six jars were taking forever and I replaced the parafilm on with glad wrap since I was concerned about FAE (that was before I knew what I know now).  So either the glad craps with rubber bands failed me by not allowing FAE or the simple act of removing the tape and moving to another breathable plastic introduced the cobweb.  I screwed up, plain and simple.

So.. should I worry about the other bags and jars?  How would I do a good cleaning in the incubator if necessary.

Thanks so much
ludus

i wundt do anything to ur bulk bag or good jars until you see some growth myc or otherwise, if possible seperate any that could of cme in any kind of contact with the contaminated ones, other wise ur good, as for cleaning incubator, replace ur perlite or bake it if ur cheap, clen surfaces with bleach and use Oust air sanitizer or lysol in the pink can

Cobweb rarely affects jar cultures, but other molds do. You shouldn't even be incubating, especially bags.  They'll easily produce 10 degrees of heat on their own, and that could take you easily over the temp where mushroom mycelium slows down and molds are encouraged.  Use normal room temp.
