West Florida Thanks!

I'm a noob, and started getting ID help from people on this site last week.  Thanks to your help, its starting to click for me in terms of actually locating the mushrooms, but I need some advice on good hunting etiquette.

I've been trying to get a sense of timing after the rain.  I've been heading out days 1,2, and 3. after a rainfall.  Now I understand that the best timing is probably going to vary with the temp., but my question has more to do with being too early.  For instance, it rained yesterday during the day, I was pretty excited and headed out early in the evening, maybe 10-12 hours after the rains had initially started.  I found a few good sized cubes popping up with the veils still attached.  I kind of felt bad picking them like they hadn't really had a chance to get started in life so I just packed it up and decided to come back later.  So my question is whats the common wisdom on picking mushrooms that still have their veils attached and have not dropped their spores?

This evening, I headed back out and was able to grab a few mature ones seen in the pic below.  I had read some one's post on here that had advised to not over-pick the field. What exactly does that mean?  Should I let some flushes go through the whole life cycle, rotating the areas that I hunt or does it mean that I should pick some and leave some in the areas I'm working?

Either one although I don't think overpicking a dung-loving mushroom field has been proven.  Only one way to find out.

People pick cow fields clean all the time... As long as the caps are open they have already dropped hundreds or thousands of tiny microscopic spores by the time you pick them.

Now some people say you should cut the stem base so you dont pull up any poop, and some people say that picking them from the poop stimulates the mycelium...  But keep in mind every time you pull up some poop thats less nutritious substrate it has to grow from.

Okay, I feel better about picking what I come across.  And, frankly, there is more field to cover than I can handle in one visit, so I kind of rotate what part I'm searching anyway.

I prefer them unopened- I think they are much more potent!

There is one down in the lower left hand side of the pic.  But, Yes, I've only found 3 since I started looking and I'm sure there were many that I missed.  There are so many Pan. ants. in the field that I am probably glossing over the copes, whereas the Cubes are etched in my brain.  When I go to sleep after checkin' out a field I can see the cubes pattern when I close my eyes.  I haven't tried the copes yet, once I find a couple more I'll give those a whirl.
