Can't find Scotts 3n1...try this

My friend lives in Canada and can't find scotts 3n1 anywhere so he goes to Home Depot and buys Master Gardener 3n1 just for the hell of it. He uses it straight out of the bag wth some grain spawn and puts it in his incubator. Mycelium starts slowly but now it's tearing through the 3n1 and there are no signs of contams. A few more days and it should be completely colonized. I'll keep everyone posted with his results.

here's an update...mycelium is moving through the 3n1 used right from the bag...my friend also decide to try using it mixed 3:1 with verm. nuked with grain spawn...after one day the mycelium is ripping it up.

I thought I'd update everyone with some results. My friend has more shrooms than he knows what to do with. He used some 3n1 mixed with verm. 3" deep in a 10"x10" tub with no casing layer. He got 97 grams wet from the first flush...most of the shrooms were about 5" tall with nice thick stems.

You should ask your friend to give you the ingredient list of the compost and tell us whether or not it is organic.

I'm gonna stick with straight horse poop...it might mean extra effort in securing a good grow medium...but I'd rather stick with purely organic growing.

I think I read from another post that Scott's doesn't make the 3-in-1 compost anymore. Good thing the Home Depot here still had like 10 bags left. Get them before they're gone, if you can find them.

I checked the ingredient list and it is totally organic...soil, peat moss and compost. 100% all natural with no chemical additives.
